Mykola Babiy Jr

I was both delighted and surprised to be awarded the 2021 Rory McDonagh Trust Prize. I enjoyed the International Business module with Prof. Nick McIlroy and I feel that this module definitely broadened my understanding of the international business landscape and how business decisions are made with a global perspective.

I would recommend this module to all those that are able to take it since it’s an eye opener on all the different forces that drive the globalisation phenomenon. The assessment was also conducted in such a way that I was able to focus on topics I was interested in while also being able to incorporate the module content and overall teachings. The ability to understand and be able to strategise internationally driven operations and economic flows is definitely a great tool to have for my future business related endeavours.

Although my four years as a B.E.S.S. student had their tough and challenging moments, I can confidently say that I had a positive and developmental experience in college overall. I particularly enjoyed being on LaunchBox 2019 with my older brother (Andriy Babiy) and the Study.ie team. The knowledge I gained will most definitely be an asset in my life, and although I haven’t yet commenced a postgraduate position I feel as though my business degree will always represent my usiness, economic, political, and sociological education.

I’m currently working as an education support worker in Limerick Institute of Technology where I assist a student as a note taker in their final year of Property Management and Valuations. This role has given me an opportunity to deepen my understanding about the real estate industry and all the various forces that influence the industry, such as social policy, urban economics, and property management practices. It’s a pleasure to be able to continue learning while also earning. This is thinking outside the box I feel.

I would finally like to thank the Rory McDonagh Trust for awarding me this prize and for their recognition of the prominence of international business in our heavily interconnected world.
